Rhapsody Dance Project has provided me a fun and safe community to continue my love for dance and choreography as a young adult, and the summer showcase is honestly a highlight of my year. I am so grateful to be continually inspired and learn from a unique, creative group of dancers who all share the same passion for dance.

Rhapsody Dance Project is a developing local artistic project aimed to provide an opportunity to experienced young adult dancers to explore movement and expression through dance. Our goal is to help dancers who are not affiliated with professional programs to collaborate with peers and participate in the creative process to choreograph, rehearse and perform their own pieces.

Our Drop-In Classes:

We offer experienced dance classes, in a drop-in style, for Kitchener-Waterloo.

All classes are held at Carousel Dance Centre, 550 Parkside Drive.

Each class is $10 to help cover studio rental fees and can be paid through cash or

Meet Marina!

Marina, one of the co-founders of RDP, recently completed her Bachelor of Mathematics in Financial Analysis and Risk Management at the University of Waterloo, and is working towards her CFA Level II. She is a ballet instructor at UW and a member of the board for Ontario Secondary School Dance Fest. Marina started dancing at 3 years old, and her favourite style of dance is ballet. When asked why she dances, her response is “To me, dancing feels like breathing, like the most natural thing for my body to do. It’s beautiful, therapeutic, frustrating, freeing, difficult and simple all at the same time, and I am so grateful for this gift in my life.”

Meet Sophia!

Sophia is in her final year of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering at McMaster University. She has been dancing for her whole life, and enjoys dancing and choreographing Modern and Jazz, but ballet still has a special place in her heart. She loves dancing because it allows her to express herself in ways words cannot, and the Rhapsody community has allowed her to reconnect with her love for dance as a young adult.

Join us for a jazz combo with Sophia on December 30 at 5:30-6:45pm! We can't wait to see you there! Classes can be purchased on our website for $10 each.

Introducing Ciera, one of RDP’s co-founders and our director of marketing and communications! Her leadership and creativity help keep RDP organized and inspired. We are so lucky to have her! Ciera currently works as a graphic designer for Sun Life, and is freelancing. Here are some other fun facts:

Here’s Marina, one of RDP’s co-founders and our director of planning and strategy! Her organizational skills and vision help keep our team on track. We couldn’t do it without her! She recently graduated from UW with her Bachelor of Mathematics/FARM. She is working as a portfolio analyst for an asset manager, and is working towards her CFA Level 2 exam in the spring. ✨ Favourite thing about RDP: the community! Seeing RDP’s growth in the past few years has been such a joy and I’m so grateful to each and every person who has been involved in the project so far :)

Next up, we have Shannon! As the drop-in coordinator, she helps keeps our drop-ins running smoothly, coordinates our teachers, and ensures dancers have a great experience. She is currently completing her PhD. Get to know her a little more:

We’re highlighting Courtney next , one of our amazing content creators! She is often found behind the camera, capturing photos and videos of our RDP memories. We’re so lucky to have her creativity and editing skills! She is currently completing her Masters at WLU. Here’s a little bit more about Courtney:

Let’s meet Ava, one of RDP’s content creators (or as she puts it, our “Social Media person”)! She brings fresh content ideas, keeps our website updated, and never fails to make us laugh. Ava is a cyber security specialist at Sun Life in the incident reporting center. Here’s a little bit more about her:

Say hello to Jessica, RDP’s graphic designer! She is the mastermind behind all of our posts and stories. She is currently in medical school at McMaster University. Some fun facts about Jessica:

Get to know Nikola, our finance coordinator! He manages our budget, keeps RDP’s finances in check, and oversees resource allocation for us. Currently, he’s working and will return to his school term after the holidays. Some fun facts about him:

Our next spotlight is on Aleks, who is our fundraising coordinator! She helps us build community connections, supports fundraising initiatives, and ensures RDP has the resources to keep doing what we love. Aleks is in her third year of biology and psychology at UW. Some fun facts about her:

Meet Naomi, RDP’s performance coordinator! She makes all our collaborations, shows, and events come to life. Naomi is in her last year of her economics undergrad degree at UW. Here’s a bit more about her:

Meet Taylor!

“I am currently a Youth Worker at the Burlington YMCA as well as a dance teacher at Smithville and Grimsby Dance Academy. I have been dancing for 20 years and my favourite styles are contemporary and highland. I love to dance as it is a great way to express my emotions though movement and music, as well as all the friends I have made throughout the various programs. As well I love all the performance and travel opportunities dance has brought into my life!”

Meet Jessica!

@jessixagu is a second year medical student at McMaster University’s Waterloo Regional Campus. In her opinion, dance is the perfect intersection of both artistry and athleticism. If she had to pick, her favourite style of dance would be contemporary, but she has recently been rediscovering her love for ballet. Jessica is super excited for the chance to spend more time in the studio, teach some classes, and get back to being on stage!

Meet Courtney!

Courtney is currently working on her masters degree. "I've been dancing since I was either two or three years, I love hiphop, heels, and chair, I love dancing because it makes me happy and I can express myself in a different way."

Meet Shannon!

Shannon, a dancer and mathematician from Toronto, has been dancing for 20 years and teaching dance for 8 years. Trained in a variety of styles including hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, and modern, her dance journey has taken her through training, performing, teaching, and choreographing in Toronto, Vancouver, and Waterloo. She is passionate about dancing, sharing her knowledge, and helping others learn something new.

Meet Brianne!

Brianne is a Dance Teacher, Choreographer and Event Coordinator in KW. She is also a Registered Nurse and works in the Intensive Care Unit. Brianne has more than 10 years of teaching experience, and has completed Ballet, Tap and Jazz Examinations (CDTA). Brianne's Jazz technique classes focus on strength and conditioning, transfer of weight and traveling steps, jumps, turns and kicks, finishing with a fun Combo that allows each student to explore their own style and performance quality. Brianne believes that dance can be enjoyed by everyone, and adapts her classes live to help her students thrive. Expect a good work out, and feeling inspired to keep dancing and exploring movement.
